Miniature pet portrait commission
Miniature pet portrait commission
Pet portraits are a special way to capture your pet's personality in a single moment and miniature portraits offer a perfect way to do this on a tighter budget. These smaller pieces are packed with just as much character as my larger works and make beautiful gifts!
Whether it be in honour of your own beloved pet, or as gift for an animal lover, I create beautifully crafted investment pieces that are the perfect way to treasure your pet for years to come. I use fine quality materials, including acid-free and lignin-free paper, to ensure your portrait last the test of time. Miniature pet portraits come mounted and with a certificate of authenticity.
To order, simply upload the photo you would like me to use and click checkout. You can find advice about how to choose reference photos here.
I work through my orders on a first come, first served basis so I can develop a waiting list at times, which means that lead times vary. Regular updates on commission availability can be found in the announcements bar at the top of the page.

How are miniature portraits different to my larger commissions?
Miniature portraits offer a more affordable way of accessing an investment piece that will capture your pet for years to come. They are much smaller in size (10 x 10cm) than the larger commissions I have on offer. Because of this, they do contain less detail than I am able to fit into a larger size, but just as much character and charm. I aim to fill the tiny frame with as much of your pet's unique personality as possible using fine quality graphite pencils and paper.

FAQ
How can I commission a miniature pet portrait?
On the "Miniature pet portrait commission" page upload the image you would like me to use onto the file uploader by dragging and dropping them into the area above the "buy" buttons or clicking "Browse." It is really important that the image you upload is of high-resolution and take in good lighting to ensure I am able to capture every detail I can in this tiny drawing! You can find out more about how to select reference photos here. Next, simply click 'Add to cart' and checkout to make your payment.
I will let you know when I have started your commission and when it is finished I will send you a picture for your approval.
If you have any questions along the way you can easily reach out to me via the Contact page.
How long will it take to draw my mini portrait?
As with larger commissions, this depends on how long my waiting list is. I work on commissions on a first come first served basis, so if you have a date in mind then it is always best to order early. However, mini commissions are much quicker to draw so I do treat these orders as a separate waiting list, meaning that wait times tend to be much shorter. You can find information about commission availability in the "Miniature pet portrait commission" product description as well as the announcements bar at the very top of the page.
Once I have started your portrait, it will take me around 3-4 hours. I will let you know once I have started work on it and will send you a picture for your approval when it is finished, so you will never be in the dark about its progress
Can I order a miniature pet portrait with more than two subjects?
Unfortunately not. Mini portraits are far too small to be able to fit more than one subject in the frame. The smallest portrait size I offer for more than one subject is A4, which can be found here.
Do you offer larger portraits?
Yes, I offer a range of larger portrait sizes, which allow me to add much more detail into your commissioned piece. You can find these here.
Can you draw a colour portrait?
Unfortunately I am not offering colour portraits. I have used acrylic paints in the past and hope to build up some practice with them again soon, but for now I am concentrating on graphite pencil and I can see this remaining my favourite medium for pet portraits as I just love the simplicity and timelessness of the portraits I can create with them!
I do see a lot of artists primarily using coloured pencil, however this is not a medium I was ever taught to use and can require different techniques to using graphite pencil. Maybe one day I will buy some coloured pencils and learn to draw with them though!
Can my miniature pet portrait have a background?
No, mini commissions are very small so there would not be room for a background.
I am not local to the Wirral, can I have my pet portrait shipped?
You absolutely can! I currently ship commissioned portraits unframed and lying flat in a padded envelope. At the moment I use the Royal Mail signed for service for mini portraits, which costs £2.75 in addition to the cost of your portrait.
Though I haven't shipped a portrait abroad yet, if you live overseas I would be happy to look into shipping costs to get a portrait of your beloved pet to you.
What materials do you use?
I currently use Staedtler Tradition graphite pencils and enjoy using the darker grades such as 6B. I have spent a long time researching the best paper to use and currently draw on Fabriano paper, which has a lightly textured feel and is acid-free and lignin-free, meaning that your mini pet portrait will last to become an heirloom piece.
